Hello Berta,
It has been year since I reached out to you in my time of struggle. I was at a point of
time in my life, where I knew the adoption issue was at a surface. For years, I
avoided the situation, and the pain of not knowing all who I am began to show
through. It began to affect me and the people around me, and it was then that I knew
that I needed to do something.

With the support of my family and with your help, I was able to find my birthmother.
What a year it has been! My birthmother, Constance, and I have a great relationship,
and have actually met and visited with each other a few times. I currently have a
great relationship with her husband and their children, my brother and sister. I have
also since talked with and had correspondence with my birth-father, who never left
Germany , and who has a five year old daughter of his own. There have been some
trying and very emotional times with Constance , and I never really realized how
difficult it can be to balance two families. Although difficult at times, very worth every
second of the whole experience.

I believe that my relationship with my family has strengthened. Sometimes it can be
hard to talk about Constance and her family with my family. It’s something that I try
my best to stay open with, but can find challenging at times for the simple reason
that I don’t enjoy balancing people’s emotions. I am still trying to talk to my brother in
depth about everything, but he is 18 and that can be challenging. However, we are
getting a quote tattooed on our back that says, “ the love of a brother needs no blood
to be a brother.”

My story is a crazy one. One that every adoption searcher should hear, and that I
would love to share. I can’t begin to tell you all that I have found out. The gaps that I
have filled in have made me more complete as a person, and the love gained and
shared is beyond words.
My life is complex and at the same time amazing. Berta, I am indebted to you for the
help and strength you guided me with in my time of despair. I thank you so very
much for all that you did. Attached is a pic of Constance and I when I visited them at
their house last September.

Best Regards,
Erik
